Join Oliver as he chills with extremely driven and accomplished entrepreneur Brandon Bird! Having founded his concert booking company fresh out of high school in 2011, The Diamond Mine Agency has gone on to book well over 2,000 hip hop, metal, rock and comedy concerts since then! Brandon has also launched two other companies in that time, with more on the horizon. He owns a late night eatery called Midnight Bites and most recently the brand new Birdhouse Tattoo Studio, both located in Ottawa's ByWard Market.

 

The episode starts off with Brandon explaining how he has been booking and organizing shows since he was a teen. He then shares stories about some of the wildest audiences, as well as a tale about bringing a severely inebriated Spenny to the casino. Oliver asks what artists Brandon would love to work with in the future, and learns about the difficulties of having a puppy while constantly touring. Brandon explains how his latest business has actually turned out to be a family affair, and sheds some light on his upcoming ventures.

Join Oliver as he chills with local comedians and filmmakers JF Frenette and Scott Brown! They have recently collaborated to produce a fantastic documentary called 'Comedy-19: The Last Laugh', which showcases the impact that the pandemic has had on the Canadian comedy industry. In conjunction with the film's upcoming release on March 5th, they have organized the Canadian Comic Relief Fund to help support comedians in Canada!

This episode starts off with talk about the content and tone of the documentary, leading into discussion about everyone's comedic origins. The conversation then switches to the topic of strange jobs and a near death experience that Scott had while on vacation. A ton of different subjects are covered in this podcast. Including sobriety, meditation and becoming more sensitive with age.

Later on, Jon's co-star from the show actually makes a surprise appearance during the interview! Oliver asks about 'The Jon Dore Television Show', and whether or not there was truth to rumours about a film adaptation. Jon discusses his frequent collaborators Adam Brodie and Dave Derewlany, and Oliver finds out how long it's been since Jon was clean shaven.

Join Oliver as he chills with one of his very best friends, Thierry Wildgust! These two have known each other for over twenty years, though they weren't always pals. Back in high school their relationship was very different, having evolved quite a lot over the years. Don't let Thierry's Instagram handle of '3.5stardad' fool you, as he is a stellar parent who has recently made the shift to being a stay at home Dad!

The conversation starts off discussing exactly that, and how many people in society still struggle with archaic gender role stereotypes. Thierry talks about his own personal growth with that in recent years as well. Working to move away from a machismo, alpha mindset and stressing the importance of counselling and being open to sensitivity. Oliver reminisces over the few times that Thierry has dabbled in stand up comedy, and his natural knack for the craft. Including a recent comedy competition where Thierry advanced past the preliminaries in his third time ever on stage, all while his infant son was fighting for his life in hospital.

Join Oliver as he chills with spectacular magician Eric Leclerc! Known for his mind-blowing original tricks and feel good magical style, Eric has won the Canadian Magic Championship twice! His astounding (and hilarious) talents have been featured on MTV, Fox, CTV, National Geographic and more! Just Chill with Oliver George #37 - Derek Evernden

Join Oliver as he chills with cartoonist extraordinaire Derek Evernden! An exceptionally talented illustrator, Derek is also the creator of the ridiculously funny, single-panel comic Bogart Creek. Known for his dark and absurd comedic style, Derek has been tickling the funny bones of all those who come across his work!

Things kick off with Derek shedding light on his artistic origins, including a gig working as a caricature artist that may have inadvertently birthed his gag-comic mentality. He then goes on to describe his process behind creating new comics, and ultimately deciding which ideas make it past the cutting room floor.

Oliver and Derek discuss their joint experience as finalists in a cross country search for cannabis curation committee members in 2018, organized by a company called AHLOT. Which leads to discussion regarding how they have both more recently decided to tone down their own personal consumption levels. The conversation ends with discussion of some of Derek's many fantastic comics, and the importance of vigilantly researching which jokes may have already been put forth by other individuals at an earlier date.

Just Chill with Oliver George #36 - Stacie Mistysyn

Join Oliver as he chills with award-winning actress Stacie Mistysyn! Well known for her role as Caitlin Ryan on the beloved Canadian Degrassi franchise, she is also a certified fitness and wellness coach! Stacie is not just extremely dedicated to physical activity, but a major proponent for mental health as well.

A lot of different topics are covered in this fantastic chat! Stacie explains how her fitness journey began after moving to LA in the mid-90's, eventually bringing that knowledge with her back to Canada. After a hiatus to be a stay at home Mom for her two kids when they were young, Stacie got re-certified and has been kicking-butt as a trainer ever since! She has also recently launched her awesome YouTube channel 'Stronger with Stacie Mistysyn'! The discussion then shifts to Stacie's personal experience with the loss of her brother to suicide, and the importance of communication in the fallout of such an immense tragedy.

Finally, things end off on a lighter note as Oliver shares a bunch of questions from die-hard Degrassi fans. Stacie's replies are super entertaining, relating a ton of wonderful tidbits from the show. Not to mention a hilarious story about the time she accidentally ruined one of director Kevin Smith's prized collectibles!

Most notably, all 6 seasons of the cult classic Canadian television series 'Kenny vs Spenny', as well as the fantastic CBC show 'Still Standing' (which also currently has 6 seasons that have been released to date).

Things start off with Sebby discussing his interest in film from a very early age, as well as his thoughts about the Canadian film and television industries. He goes on to tell stories about his youthful years and being mentored by close friend and comedian Kenny Hotz. Oliver then shares a slew of Kenny vs Spenny terrific fan questions for Sebby, which result in some hilariously entertaining answers full of behind the scenes tidbits from the show!
